Rebate and Earning

Everyone loves a freebie or making something extra for little effort. Below are a few sites I use and let them add for when I take trips. I love cashing in for cash, Amazon or Starbucks but most give you an opportunity to select from many gift cards to favorite stores, restaurants and more.

Ibotta is one of my favorites to earn my trip money. What's better than using great coupons at the store to save? Receiving even more discounts using Ibotta. Use my referral https://ibotta.com/r/osxlma

I stopped by the store yesterday for cat food, peaches and limes and I checked Ibotta and all three had rebates! I clicked on the rebate and submitted my receipt via the app. Easy peasy and made an extra dollar.

When shopping be sure to have the RetailMeNot app loaded on your phone to check for discounts. I was in Bath and Body Works buying quite a bit (I'm obsessed with that store) and checked for a coupon. I saved over $50! Later I had lunch at Subway and bought a foot long sub meal for only $5. Where ever you shop or eat, always check if you can save with this easy to use app.

Swagbucks is so easy to use. If you online shop or just search you can earn bucks. It's easy to make a $5 Amazon or Starbucks card in a week just by searching for what you normally do. Take advantage of their surveys and shopping for extra bucks then cash in for great cards. I just purchased several birthday gifts using Swagbucks to cash in for Amazon. Click on the referral below. Swag has no spam!

I love using Hog Receipts. Unfortunately, they are not accepting new members but keep checking. Once you are in, stay active and earn those coins. I snap my receipts soon as I leave the stores and restaurants. Even gas stations and drive-ins! They add up and only takes seconds. Don't forget to do their surveys when offered for extra coins.

Melanoma Month Awareness

May is melanoma awareness month but in reality, every day should be. This deadly skin cancer can look like an irregular mole or spot but it can show up in your toe nails, between toes, folds of skin, bottom of feet, and more. Taking this month to remove nail polish and really check head to toe can save your life.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer and although baby boomers are showing skin damage and many types of skin cancers, it's  not age discriminatory. I had my first basal cut out at the age of 27 and I know others who had melanoma in their early 20's.

The sun is the most common cause and baby boomers bathed with their Coppertone, Sea 'N Ski and even Crisco to get that golden tan. The later generations started going in the tanning booths thinking they were safe but in reality, it escalated the chances of melanoma and other types of skin cancers.

I've have four melanoma surgeries since 2004 with three being in 2016. All were different in looks and stages and so far I'm considered 95% cured since I caught them early. One looked like a small atypical mole, one like a freckle but was growing, one like black mole and one so tiny on my back the doctor almost thought was just a mole but because it wasn't there before she removed it to be safe. That one was stage II and I had to see an oncologist at OHSU.

I've had over 40 basal cell removed from scraping, large incisions requiring several stitches, bios that came clean catching early and some growing back over the scars. I've had Moh's surgery on my face for a pearl looking basal, (they don't all look like a pink sore), and squamous which too is more dangerous especially on the head where mine was. My arms, legs and private areas sport scars as well.

Those in their 50's are more apt to grow squamous on the neck, face and scalp.

I'm high risk and have to be seen every two months. Since my last visit removing stitches, I have new growths. I'll be doing the naked photo mapping and believe me, this body doesn't do naked but that's how serious it is to prevent dying from skin cancer.

Wear SPF 15 or higher. I recommend higher of at least 30. I love Aveeno and Bull Frog. When I wear makeup I make sure it has SPF as well. Many don't realize putting it on once isn't enough. Reapply every two hours and after you swim or work out. Remember seeing those life guards with white noses?

There are all types of skin cancers. Skin cancer affects all skin tones from fair to very dark. Dark skinned people may develop them on the palms of their hands and soles of their feet. Signs for all can be pearly or waxy bump, pink sore that looks like a scar or bleed like an injury, scaly wart looking lesion, (squamous), red nodule, moles that change in color, shape, and blue-black/white or red moles or irregularity. It can be a dark streak in your nail or look like you injured the nail and have a black spot. (melanoma).

One thing to remember, melanoma can develop on areas never or rarely exposed to the sun.

Eventually I will add photos of some of the scars with the hope it will prevent at least one person from tanning and use SPF more.

healthfinder.org is a site I check for information not just for myself but to pass along to others who are interested in learning more and find health information on several different topics.

Coal Miners Daughter by Loretta Lynn

Many years I have been a fan of Loretta Lynn. I saw the movie with Sissy Spacek playing her and read everything I could about her but never read her book until now.

Coal Miner's Daughter was written by Loretta Lynn and George Vecsey. She began with she wanted the book written as she talked and not fancy it up. It was like sitting on a porch and listening to Loretta tell her story and become good friends.

Loretta Lynn was born in Butcher Hollow but the folks in KY call it Butcher Holler. Her mother, Clara, was part Cherokee Indian, something Loretta was very proud of and became an activist for. She was named after Loretta Young, something I have in common with her. I too was named after Loretta Young.

Her daddy, Ted Webb, worked hard in the coal mines and later it gave him black lung and he couldn't work any longer. They had to move to Wabash, Indiana so he could work in a factory and a cousin moved into their cabin in the hollow. He never got to see Loretta become famous  since he died of black lung at the age of 53.

Loretta talked how she met Doo, (Oliver Vanetta "Doolittle' Lynn), and married him a month after they met when barely 15 years old. By the time she was 20 she had four little ones and just figured out where they were coming from. In all they had six children together. Sadly two passed away - Jack Benny by drowning at the age of 34 and Betty Sue of emphysema.

She tells about her start in music along with all the trials and heartache. Most of her songs were inspired by her life with Doo and women's issues with cheating, drinking, and men who treated their wives wrong. She was the first woman named, "Entertainer of the Year" and and has been bestowed award after award much to her surprise. She kept her down home personality and never let fame get to her.

I give this book five stars.

Book Review: Gone Girl

I'm really on the fence with this book. I don't know whether to give it four stars or three. I'm not going to give it five because of the ending chapters.

Jillian Flynn is an exceptional writer taking us through the lives of Nick and Amy Dunne from their beginning romance to their fifth wedding anniversary when she disappears. Chapters are "written" by Nick and Amy with Amy telling her diary what Nick has done or not done.  Through the book you'll feel bad for Amy and with all the evidence, feel Nick just may have had a part in her disappearance.

You kind of guess towards the end but the twisted end leaves you speechless or ranting with statements like, "what the he**?"

I thought about it for a long time and either it's a good ending for karma to bite him or we may get a sequel out of it. Why not? Fifty Shades did and the book was so dang repetitious and predicable and it had two more put out.

I haven't seen the movie and not sure if I will unless it's close enough to the book. Then again I may find myself wound up knowing how the end is going to be.
